Winter Athletics

Winter athletics at Carlisle School run from November – March and include Boys and Girls Basketball, and Fishing. Read on to learn about each team, their coaches, and sponsorship opportunities. 

Boys Basketball

With 7 VISAA state championships and 5 VIC championships, Carlisle Chiefs Basketball has a longstanding history of excellence. There are teams: Middle School and Varsity. Practices and games are held on campus in the Roy Building Gym and the Hart Gym.

Varsity Coach: Antonio ” Demario” Mattox 
 A graduate of Liberty University in Interdisciplinary Studies, Demario is joining us with experience  from playing D1, D2, and overseas basketball in Uruguay. His coaching experience started at Carlisle in 2012. From 2012-2016 he coached alongside Jason Niblett. He then coached at Benjamin Franklin Middle School (2019-2020) and then Bassett High School (2020-2022). 

His goal for the program is to focus on a few key concepts: character development, skill development, time, encouragement, dedication, and teamwork.

BasketballGirls Basketball

The Carlisle Chiefs Girls Basketball team boasts 8 VISAA state championships, most recently with back-to-back wins in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018.  The Chiefs compete in the BRC conference and have won three conference championships. The girls basketball program consists of both Junior Varsity and Varsity teams. Practices and games are held on campus in the Roy Building Gym and the Hart Gym.

The Carlisle School BASS Fishing Team allows interested students to learn fishing skills and introduces students to the sport of competitive fishing. The team placed 10th out of 36 boats during their first tournament of the 2018-2019 season.

Practices and tournaments are held at public lakes across the state of Virginia including Philpott Lake and Buggs Island Lake.
