Honoring the Legacy of Linda Isley
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Linda Isley on January 2, 2025. Mrs. Isley was a beloved member of the Carlisle community, dedicating 28 years to teaching elementary school students, including 20 remarkable years as part of Carlisle’s teaching staff from 1974 to 1994. She primarily taught second and third grade, where her passion and creativity left a lasting impact on generations of students.
Mrs. Isley was known for her love of Greek mythology, her emphasis on good manners, and her unique tradition of awarding sour balls for excellence. Her classroom was a place of wonder and encouragement, and her students thrived under her care. One of her most memorable projects—her third-grade class’s 1982 Greek mythology project—still hangs proudly in Carlisle’s Lower School hallway, a testament to her innovative teaching and the legacy she left behind.
Even after her retirement, Mrs. Isley remained a dedicated supporter of Carlisle School and its mission. Her legacy continues through the Linda Wall Isley Scholar Award, an annual scholarship presented to a rising third grader, reflecting her lifelong commitment to fostering a love of learning and reading.
Linda Isley’s influence extended far beyond her classroom. Her passion for teaching, dedication to excellence, and belief in the potential of every child will continue to inspire the Carlisle community for years to come.
