In September 1968, Carlisle first opened its doors for 81 students in grades 1-7. The school was started in Martinsville, Virginia by area business leaders, educators, and professionals who were interested in providing a community-based school which combined superior academics with high personal standards. Carlisle embraced the philosophy of offering a rigorous college-preparatory program and encouraging intellectual discipline and creativity, while also fostering the development of character and individual responsibility.

Over the past 45 years, Carlisle has grown to provide a first class education to over 400 students each year in preschool through grade 12. Our campus locations in Danville and Martinsville, along with our two boarding houses, allow us to serve students in our local region as well as around the world.
