Planning for Fall 2020

The following is a letter from Mrs. Agnew shared with families on May 18, 2020.

We are all eager to return to some semblance of normal in our everyday lives, and we are trying to make that happen in terms of the education of your children. Currently, school is scheduled to open to students on August 24, 2020, with full-day, face to face learning, and we are hoping that this indeed is the case. We are also being realistic and are doing intense planning for the possibility that after abating, the virus will rear its ugly head later in the year, and we have to be prepared for that as well.

Under our current circumstances, our attempt to plan for the various possibilities and scenarios we might encounter if/when we are able to resume in-person schooling is not an easy task. One of our main concerns is keeping students, faculty, and staff healthy and safe from the virus. When school opens, there will be protocols in place which include the following:

  • Entrance process screening to include daily temperature checks of everyone: students, staff, visitors (This will include the bus.)
  • Hand washing upon entry and throughout the day with both soap and water and hand sanitizer
  • Adherence to physical distancing guidelines if those are still in place
  • Use of flexible scheduling for classes
  • Dining changes to maintain health and safety standards
  • School-wide sanitizing of all areas including the bus for each route

While our first choice is at school instruction, circumstances may dictate otherwise. We may have to toggle between students receiving instruction in person and instruction at home. We are preparing for that as an alternative. Our teachers will deliver high-quality instruction in either platform.

As always, I am available for questions or suggestions. I welcome your input.
