Overview

Carlisle strives to provide every student with the opportunity to achieve at his/her highest level and to fully unlock the potential that lies within, as we prepare our students to become the leaders of tomorrow.

Carlisle’s Upper School is comprised of grades 9 through 12, with a current enrollment of 150 students including 37 international students from countries such as Finland, Uganda, Sudan, China, Korea, Japan, Germany, Spain, Sweden, and India. Our faculty and students are committed to a global perspective in regards to education. Our students are strongly encouraged to look at the world from different perspectives and to use varied methodologies to learn, evaluate, analyze and synthesize information. Carlisle students have a unique opportunity to be exposed to different cultures and customs by interacting with our international students in the classroom, on the athletic field and on the performance stage.

Upper School students take part in a vigorous and extensive curriculum that is strictly college preparatory in nature. Since the first graduating class in 1974, 100% of Carlisle graduates have been accepted to a four-year college or university. In addition to Carlisle’s regular course of study, students may also take Honors, Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) courses. Students may also gain college credit, while still in high school, by taking advantage of dual enrollment programs with Patrick Henry Community College and Virginia State University.

Our students are expected to be involved in school life and in their communities. Community service is built into the curriculum with many opportunities to serve through clubs such as CHILL, Interact, Magisteri and Zip Zap Zop. The SCA and Honor Council also provide additional opportunities for students to serve and to lead. Opportunities for involvement in student life are also available through other clubs such as Art, Student/Faculty Rock Band, Recycling, International Club, Strategic Gaming, and Archery. Additionally, students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of sports including volleyball, soccer, field hockey, fencing, basketball, golf, tennis, softball, cross country and baseball.

I strongly encourage you to call or visit to discover for yourself the Carlisle Difference.
